Questions:
Do you sell direct to individuals?
Our business model is to establish distributor
relationships and strategic partnerships in order to maintain market share
and customer satisfaction. We would be happy to refer you to a
distributor in your area.
How can I become a distributor?
We would like to talk with you so that we can learn
more about your business and the area that you service. It is important
for us to know your needs and strategic plans in order to build a strong
profitable relationship.
What are the payment terms for first time customers?
To be set up on terms takes 24 to 48 hours to process
the credit application. If you need the order to ship before then, a
credit card or sending a cashiers check overnight would be acceptable.
What kind of marketing support can I expect from
House of Forgings?
House of Forgings, Inc.’s marketing pieces are all
designed in house. High definition powder coated catalogs, quad fold
flyers and even monthly sales flyers are available to you. We can also
help you design custom flyers to meet your specific needs. (Call for

Shipping Questions:
Can you ship my order to me COD?
Yes, we can, but it is much more cost effective to
establish terms, accept payment by credit card, overnight cashiers check
or receive electronic deposit. House of Forgings, Inc. strives to
personalize your business and keep handling costs down.
What freight carriers do you use to ship your
products?
We use several different common carriers in order to
get you the best freight cost possible. Conway and FedEx Freight are
typically the carriers we utilize. You can also use your own shipping
company and have freight billed directly to you. However, with the volume
of freight that we handle we can almost always get you a lower freight
cost.
How long does it take to get my shipment?
To most areas of the United States it will take 2 – 3
days (not counting shipping day) to receive your shipment. Shipments to
the Northeast and Northwest United States and Canada will take 4 – 5
days. Puerto Rico shipments will take 5 – 6 days.
Installation
Questions:
Do you have a “How to” video for sale?
Great question! Unfortunately we do not have one at
the present time but it is in the planning stages to be produced. In the
meantime you can view a graphic of “how to install” a staircase on our
website.
www.houseofforgings.net. The Stair Manufacturers Association (SMA) is
also a great source for information.
Do you have information about stair codes?
How many balusters can you install on a tread? The
best source of information is through the Stair Manufacturers Association
(SMA). Also, please be sure to check with your local Builders Association
for codes that have been adopted and specific to your city or county.
How do you install panels?
Panels install very similar to balusters. When
installed in accordance to manufacturer specifications, panels will meet
code. Depending on the curve of your staircase will determine whether you
use a concave, convex or a flat panel for a balcony. Panels are not
designed to be used on an open stringer and in some instances minor
welding is necessary. We would be happy to receive
your call and help you with any questions you may have.
How do I install a wood newel?
There are basically two types of wooden newel posts,
turned and box
The Newel
Post is what anchors your entire railing system, whether you chose wrought
iron or wood spindles. Thus, it is important to understand the features of
a wood newel post, as it relates to the entire installation process. The
size of a standard newel (that is used for interior railings) is typically
between 2 3/4" and 3 1/2" square. Box Newels can be significantly larger.
If you are
using some sort of metal newel post fastener, then a wood post between
42-43" is usually suitable. The fastener is attached to the base of the
newel, and then screwed to the floor. The preferred method of installation
is to drop the post through the floor and anchor it to the floor joists
below. This does require that you remove some of the sub floor to expose
the floor joists and allow secure fastening. In this case you would need a
48" newel in order to have enough wood.
You, also,
must use a 48" long newel post when it is notched and installed up tight
to the bottom step. Since it must drop that extra 7" to the lower floor,
the longer newel becomes critical. This is a great way to anchor the
bottom newel and strengthen your entire installation.
This is just
a few of the things you need to think about when ordering your interior
railing parts.

Can you recommend someone or company to do
installations?
If House of Forgings, Inc. has a customer that does
full service stair installations in your area, we would be more than happy
to refer you to them. Otherwise, I would contact your local Building
Association for a reputable and licensed contractor in your area.
Product Questions:
Do you offer a warranty on your products?
We stand behind the quality and integrity of our
products. Due to the variables associated with a product after it has
been installed, each situation is different. If a perceived manufacturer
flaw or defect is in question, it would be reviewed and handled on a
case by case basis.
Do you produce custom species of wood?
Yes, please call for availability and lead time.
Can you clear coat a PC baluster?
It would really depend on the type of powder that is
being used. In most cases, you can clear coat with a non yellowing
product. However, House of Forgings, Inc. cannot be responsible if a
clear coat product causes your powder coated product to crack, bubble or
peel. Please, check with the manufacturer to assure that your clear
product can be used on powder coating.
Can we get a sample of your products?
Yes.
Do you have to use shoes when installing iron
balusters?
Metal balusters were originally designed to install on
new projects without shoes. However, due to the remodel industry where
wooden balusters have been removed, base shoes were used to cover the
scratched tread. Base shoes have become one of the most sold products
because of the attractive, finished look it gives to a staircase.
Can your balusters be installed outside?
Although durable, powder coated balusters were not
designed for exterior use. Not to say that you cannot put them outside.
The long term result would be fading. Two colors, copper vein and silver
vein, being that they are textured and epoxy based will hold gloss
retention longer. However, all colors will fade over a period of
time. If the powder
coat is compromised by scratching or chipping, the baluster will rust just
as it would if it were primed or painted.
Are all iron balusters 44” long?
The industry standard for a powder coated baluster is
44 inches. Powder coated newel posts will usually run 47 to 48 inches.
Some raw metal balusters will range from 36 inches to 44 inches depending
on the pattern. Raw metal balcony balusters come in 37 1/2 inches, 39
inches and 42 inches. Powder coated balcony baluster are 40 inches.
